In 1919, British Forces removed the printing press and printing equipment from the 'Kilkenny People' newspaper. Not only were they removing printing equipment but they were also removing the right to free speech. This move prevented messages of Irish Independence and freedom being spread throughout Kilkenny and the surrounding areas. It was a bold move by the British and it was in essence an act against the Irish people. This move sparked outrage and it was not long before the 'Kilkenny People' was back in action bringing local news and important messages to the people.
